Adopt a Australian Shepherd / Mixed

Australian Shepherd / Mixed Dog

Hayden *Arctic Litter* Puppy the Dog needs a home

German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs.

If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information.

We recently rescued Hayden and his 6 siblings from a SD reservation. Reservation dogs lead a very hard life, with no shelter, little food, and no vet care. Many of them die on the reservation due to accidents, deprivation, and/or sickness, among other causes. Fortunately for Hayden, he is one of the lucky ones, as he got out safely, and he will now get to experience life as a beloved family pet.

Hayden is an outgoing, talkative, playful 2.5 month-old puppy! He is not a huge fan of the cold. He loves his warm, comfy blanket, and loves to plays with any and all toys around the house, including the big dogs' toys and chew bones. He likes to play tug-o-war with the other puppies too!  Hayden is very cuddly and really enjoys being around people. He always follows his foster parents around the house and is never too far! Hayden also likes to be around other dogs, and his favorite way to nap is cuddled up to another dog or puppy!  Hayden is a typical puppy, full of energy: he likes to play hard, then he crashes for an hour or so, until he wakes up reenergized and ready to go again! He is doing very well with crate-training and potty-training. He recently learned "sit" and "shake", and he likes to learn new things!

Hayden would be an excellent fit for an active adopter who is excited about training, socializing, and being active with a super fun, smart, lovable pup!

We do not know what the Arctic Litter pups are mixed with. Our best guess is that they are herding breed mixes. These adorable little guys will make great additions to active families that will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart pups who will need leadership, and plenty of activity and mental stimulation. This is true of all of the breeds that we rescue :).

Reminder: Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills

Please review the information in the "About Us" and "Adopt" sections on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org), as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.
